Prof. Sylvia Mechsner — specialist in gynecology and obstetrics Charité Berlin 23 Jahre Erfahrung

Born in Rein­bek in 1972, Syl­via Mechs­ner grew up near Ham­burg. After gra­dua­ting from high school in 1991, she did a free social year in Ber­lin and began stu­dy­ing human medi­ci­ne at the Free Uni­ver­si­ty of Ber­lin in 1992. After com­ple­ting her Phy­sikum, she wro­te her dis­ser­ta­ti­on at the Insti­tu­te for Bio­che­mis­try at the Free Uni­ver­si­ty of Ber­lin. In 2001 Mechs­ner com­ple­ted her spe­cia­list training. 

She has been employ­ed at the Cli­nic for Gyneco­lo­gy, Cha­ri­té, sin­ce 2001, whe­re she curr­ent­ly works as a seni­or phy­si­ci­an at the Virch­ow-Kli­ni­kum cam­pus. She has hea­ded the Charité’s endo­me­trio­sis rese­arch labo­ra­to­ry sin­ce 2005, and the endo­me­trio­sis cen­ter sin­ce 2014.

In 2010 she com­ple­ted her habi­li­ta­ti­on in the field of endo­me­trio­sis on the sub­ject of “Endo­me­trio­sis, the misun­ders­tood gyneco­lo­gi­cal pro­blem — inves­ti­ga­ti­ons into the patho­ge­ne­sis and deve­lo­p­ment of pain”. In 2019 she was appoin­ted pro­fes­sor for endo­me­trio­sis research. 

Prof. Dr. Mechs­ner leads many rese­arch pro­jects and cli­ni­cal stu­dies on the patho­ge­ne­sis and pain mecha­nisms of endo­me­trio­sis. She published a book on this sub­ject in 2021: 

Endo­me­trio­se — Die unter­schätz­te Krank­heit: Dia­gno­se, Behand­lung und was Sie selbst tun kön­nen” (ISBN-10 3965841610).

Syl­via Mechs­ner is mar­ried and has three children.
